Solihull College - Hair & Beauty Ventilation

Project Value:
£45,000
Date Completed:
Summer 2023

Working with the Solihull College project team, a client with whom we are the incumbent Service & PPM contractor, we designed and installed a brand new energy efficient mechanical heat recovery system to the Hair and Beauty studio to meet the demanding environmental conditions within the space.

Requirements

The college are forward thinking and needed to improve ventilation within a Hair and Beauty studio, which was formally an office space. Due to the change in operation of the room, they had a requirement to improve the ventilation, to ensure adequate air changes within the space, which consisted high usage of sprays and chemicals.

Our role in the project was to carry out a design brief and then to supply, install and commission the required application.

Solution

The college wanted the greenest solution available, so working alongside the technical team at Kooltech, we selected a mechanical heat recovery system, which would provide sufficient air changes as per the design requirements.

Equipment Specification

  • 1 off Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay LGH150 MVHR System
  • 1 off GUG 7kw Heat Pump Coil
  • 1off 7kW Power Inverter Mitsubishi Electric R32 Condenser.

Challenges

Due the volume of air changes required for the area, we were conscious of the air volume within the space, so we modelled the proposed air flow and selected the volume and type of grilles to ensure conditions and noise within the room was satisfactory.

The void within the room is quite small, so we were limited with space to install the required equipment. Our solution was to mount all plant externally including ductwork and then penetrate the roof and ceiling directly into the room.

To ensure maximum control and efficiency the system was linked back to the site BMS.
