On 2 January, we celebrated an incredible milestone at IRS, Scott Davis marked 20 years with the business. What started as a trainee role in 2006 has grown into a board-level leadership career that perfectly represents the culture, commitment, and technical excellence we stand for.
To honour Scott’s journey, we asked colleagues to share their reflections. Here is Scott’s story – from the workshop floor to the boardroom.
Scott joined IRS back in January 2006 as a trainee service engineer. Scott had a background in commercial refrigeration and was in the process of completing his NVQ Level 2.
Although Scott was midway through his apprenticeship, his maturity, commitment, and consciousness shone through, and he quickly became a key part of the service team delivering the service contract at Cadbury Somerdale, near Bristol. Scott quickly developed into a service engineer and was on the demanding callout rota for the Cadbury Somerdale site quicker than expected. Working as an engineer at the Somerdale Factory, he gained vast knowledge on Industrial Refrigeration equipment including compressor strip downs and refrigerant retrofits.
Due to the closure of the Somerdale Factory in 2011, IRS reaped the benefit of Scott’s knowledge and skill set as a mobile service engineer. Scott has always been keen on personal development and quickly developed into a senior engineer, learning new skills and versatility with the introduction of new sites and challenges. Scott became trained in ammonia and was a key part along with other senior engineers in us securing a lucrative contract with a major supermarket warehouse chain. The site was remote, however, Scott’s commitment to delivering the contract was paramount in IRS being able to deliver this demanding contract.
Scott made the natural progression to engineering supervisor due to his leadership skills and initiative. He provided a balanced view to the engineering department and aided with the development of other engineers, provided technical support and improved the efficiency within the service department.
Due to the growth of the maintenance and service department, Scott was appointed Service Manager in 2020. Due to Scott’s hard work and commitment, he made the role a success and provided a much-required technical understanding to the position and aided with the support and growth of the business. Scott started to become more involved in the business strategy and making key contributions in executing our business plan, whilst also continuing to develop the quality of the service department. This led to Scott becoming Direct or Service in 2023. To reward Scott for his continued hard work, commitment to IRS, technical leadership at Board Level and ongoing stability and leadership, Scott became a shareholder in December 2025.
I would like to formally recognise and congratulate Scott Davis on reaching an outstanding milestone of 20 years’ service with the company.
I have had the privilege of working alongside Scott throughout this journey, from his early days as a refrigeration and air conditioning engineer out on the road and on the tools, through his progression into the office as Service Manager, and ultimately into his current role as Service Director. At every stage of his career, Scott has demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, strong leadership, and an unwavering commitment to both customers and staff.
In my role as his right-hand man and Service Desk Manager, I work closely with Scott to oversee the day-to-day coordination of the service and maintenance department. This includes job planning and scheduling, quoting, resource allocation, and overall operational control. Working at this level gives me direct insight into the standards Scott sets. His clear strategic direction, deep technical and commercial experience, and calm, decisive leadership ensure the department operates efficiently, delivers consistent results, and continues to perform at a high level.
Scott’s journey is a testament to his dedication, work ethic, and deep understanding of the industry. His leadership has played a key role in shaping the service department into what it is today, and his influence is felt across the wider business.
